Holiday – Part II

We spent the second part of the holiday in the Netherlands as well. DD went on camp for 5 days and so we were able to go off just to two of us… on a ‘mini cycling holiday’!!!! My husband is fanatical cyclist and at times, so am I.

There are people who shudder at the idea of going cycling for an entire day… but I can thoroughly recommend going on a mini cycling holiday. It is just so much FUN! (It does helps if you like cycling, of course ;) )

You spend 4 days cycling and your goal every day is: making sure that you have something to eat and that you arrive at your destination. Delightfully simple! And, of course, it is very nice to get away from it all together. The best thing about cycling is that you get to places that are hard to get to with the car. You see the most beautiful spots, villages and especially a lot of beautiful skies and nature.

We did go for luxury during this mini cycling holiday. We spent the night in cabins, which we had pre-booked. We also had a big lunch ‘somewhere along the way’ and then just ate soup or a sandwich for dinner. All we needed to bring was a sleeping bag, a set of clothes and a few plate, pots and cutlery; no heavy bags or backpacks. The weather was also great. We only had to shelter for a short rain shower twice, but otherwise, it was nice!

We had planned a route of approximately 60 km per day. That sounds like a lot, but it isn’t really. You can take all day to get to your destination, and have plenty of time for a few breaks ;)

The route started out our house; we hopped on our bikes and on the first day cycled to a campsite on the river Waal. The next day, we followed a beautiful route along the river Waal and ended up in the vicinity of Nijmegen. On day 3, we cycled to the Veluwe and spend a day cycling through the woods and across the heath. Before we knew it, it was the last day, and it was time to cycle home via the polder.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip, especially with the beautiful skies and beautiful nature!

After our 4 days away, we picked up DD and got ready for the last part of the holiday… (More about that tomorrow!)
