Materials
Metal ring with a 15cm diameter.
Cotton yarn, in various colours.
Crochet hook 3 or 3.5mm.
Notes
The pattern repeat is 8 stitches; repeat these stitches to make the rectangle fit around the ring, if you are using a bigger or smaller ring. Change colour every row.
Instructions
Work around the ring: 15 x sc 8 = 120 sts.
Insert the hook under the ring and yarn over. Move hook over the ring and yarn over, pulling it through the loops on the hook.
Repeat around the ring, in multiples of 8.
Work sc 1 in each st.
Follow the diagram for rows 1 and 2.
Row 1: *sc 1, ch 3, skip 3 sts, in the 4th st work [dc 1, ch 3, dc 1], ch 3, skip 3 sts.* Repeat * * to the end of the row. End the row with a sl st in the first st of the row.

Row 18 (the edging): work dc 7 in each ch space. Between the dc-groups , on the sc of the previous row, work dc 1. Work to the end of the row. End the row with a sl st in the first st of the row.

With regular intervals, attach 3 ribbons along the top of the ring. Attach these ribbons to your lantern stick or a wooden stick.
